About Appeeling Fruit
In 1991, Appeeling Fruit, Inc. opened it’s doors for business and has been thriving ever since. Our story is one of humility, perseverance, and a willingness to go the extra mile.
Steve Cygan, President and CEO, and his wife and business partner, Beth Ann, Vice President, started Appeeling Fruit to provide fresh sliced apples for bakeries. Though the market demand has changed, with their guidance and hard work, Appeeling Fruit has continued to grow and evolve, becoming one of the largest fresh sliced apple producers on the East Coast.
In 1991, AFI was solely a processor of fresh bakery apples with no extended shelf life. We started selling to bakeries throughout the northeast and with the help of a small group of employees, and family members they built a sustainable business supplying those bakeries.
After eight successful years providing bakery slices, Appeeling Fruit saw opportunity in the fresh market. Fresh sliced and packaged products were rare at the time, and technology and treatments were in their infancy. Through trial and error, and a few key development partnerships, Appeeling Fruit launched what is now known as “Fresh Sliced Apples”. Knowing this product would be a success; Steve Cygan began marketing fresh sliced apples in the fall of 1998.
Then in 2009 with the help of the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce, Greater Berks Economical Development, and Ben Franklin Technologies Appeeling Fruit made a move that would define it for the next decade to come. Riding on the success of the fresh sliced market and the drive for more production and space we moved from our original factory in Blandon, PA into our “new” 23,000 square foot state of the art facility located in Dauberville, PA. This move was made with the foresight of food safety demands, rapid escalation in demand for fresh products, and the vision to make Appeeling Fruit a successful community based organization.
As we look to the future, Appeeling Fruit will continue to be at the forefront of the fresh food food and healthy living movement. We will continue to focus our energy and growth on offering the safest, most convenient, and lowest priced fresh sliced options to customers. At over 20 years old, AFI has never been better and we could not have done it without the support of our customers, employees and you.
